In October 2026, various universal and regional human rights bodies will assess States’ compliance with their human rights obligations through interactive dialogues, the consideration of State and civil society reports, country visits, and the review of individual complaints. At the United Nations (UN), three treaty bodies are scheduled to meet to assess States’ progress towards the enjoyment of civil and political rights, the elimination of discrimination against Women, and the prevention of torture. In addition, the Human Rights Council as well as two of its mechanisms will hold sessions. This is in addition to four special procedures conducting country visits to Mozambique, Canada, Zimbabwe, and Ghana. At the regional level, the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR), the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACERWC), the European Committee of Social Rights (ECSR), the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), and the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACtHR) have sessions, meetings, or hearings scheduled for this month. The sessions and country visits taking place in October are listed in the first section below, titled Hearings, Sessions, and Country Visits. UN treaty body sessions may be watched via UN Web TV. The public hearing and decision-delivery sittings of regional bodies are normally available through the relevant bodies’ official webcast or YouTube channels.
