In June 2026, various universal and regional human rights bodies will assess States’ compliance with their human rights obligations through interactive dialogues, the consideration of State and civil society reports, country visits, the adoption of Universal Periodic Review outcomes, and where applicable, the consideration of pending applications and cases. At the United Nations (UN), one treaty body will continue a session that began in May to assess States’ implementation of the rights of migrant workers and members of their families. In addition, the Human Rights Council will hold its 62nd regular session and adopt the outcomes of the 51st session of the Working Group on the Universal Periodic Review. Finally, four of the UN Human Rights Council’s special procedures have country visits scheduled for June. At the regional level, the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights (AfCHPR), the European Committee of Social Rights (ECSR), and the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACtHR) will be in session this month. The sessions and country visits taking place in June are listed in the first section below, titled Hearings, Sessions, and Country Visits. UN treaty body sessions may be watched via UN WebTV. The public hearings of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights (AfCHPR) and the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACtHR) may be viewed via the AfCHPR’s YouTube page and the IACtHR’s YouTube channel, respectively.
Additionally, in June and July NGOs and civil society actors will have a number of opportunities to submit written information to human rights bodies and mechanisms that are focused on specific countries or human rights issues. These opportunities are listed in the final section below, titled Calls for Input and Other Engagement Deadlines.

Hearings, Sessions, and Country Visits
United Nations
UN Treaty Bodies
In June, one UN treaty body will continue with a session that began in May. The full schedule of treaty body sessions can be viewed on the OHCHR Human Rights Mechanisms Calendar. The public activities of the treaty bodies, including constructive dialogues held as part of State party reviews, are webcast on UN WebTV. For information about in-person participation of civil society in the public activities of the treaty bodies, visit the UN’s Indico system.

Committee on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families
The Committee on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers (CMW) is scheduled to hold its 42nd session from May 28 to June 12 in Geneva, Switzerland. During the 42nd session, the Committee will consider the fourth periodic report of Ecuador, the second periodic report of Ghana, and the initial report of The Gambia. During this same session, the Committee will adopt a list of issues for Lesotho, as well as lists of issues prior to reporting for Guatemala and Guyana. Finally, the Committee will consider a follow-up report from Burkina Faso. The programme of work for the session provides specific dates and times for these activities. The information note for civil society organizations describes the various opportunities for civil society organizations to engage with the Committee during the session. Those wishing to attend in person must register individually online through the Indico system. All public meetings will also be webcast on UN Web TV.
UN General Assembly: Human Rights Council
The Human Rights Council is scheduled to hold its 62nd regular session in Geneva from June 15 to July 10. The session page includes the draft programme of work and related documentation. Public meetings of the Council are generally webcast on UN Web TV. For information on accreditation and ways to participate in the Human Rights Council’s sessions, visit the Council’s page on NGO participation. The organizational meeting for the 62nd session of the Human Rights Council is scheduled for June 1. During this meeting, four candidates will be presented for appointment to special procedure mandates. Registration and media accreditation for the organizational meeting are handled through the Indico system.
Universal Periodic Review
During the 62nd session of the Human Rights Council, the Council is scheduled to adopt the outcomes of the 51st session of the Working Group of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR), held in January 2026. The States whose outcomes are scheduled for adoption are Micronesia, Lebanon, Mauritania, Nauru, Rwanda, Nepal, Saint Lucia, Oman, Austria, Australia, Georgia, Saint Kitts and Nevis, and Sao Tome and Principe.
The documentation for each State’s review is available on the UPR section of the Human Rights Council’s website. NGOs in consultative status with ECOSOC may be accredited to attend the plenary session as observers and, if inscribed on the speakers’ list, may make oral statements during the segment allocated for the adoption of UPR outcomes.
Special Procedures and Expert Mechanisms
Three of the UN Human Rights Council’s special procedures and one of its expert mechanisms have country visits scheduled for June. The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) provides a list of forthcoming country visits of the special procedures, including those scheduled beyond the month of June.
- The UN Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (EMRIP) is scheduled to visit Brazil from June 1 to 10.
- The UN Special Rapporteur on discrimination against persons with leprosy (Hansen’s disease) is scheduled to visit Colombia from June 2 to 13.
- The UN Special Rapporteur on freedom of religion or belief is scheduled to visit Nigeria from June 8 to 19.
- The UN Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances is scheduled to visit Guatemala from June 23 to July 2.
Please note that some of the UN special procedures have recently had to postpone country visits due to the ongoing liquidity crisis at the UN.
Other UN Events Relating to Human Rights
The UN Environment Programme (UNEP), together with the United Nations Environment Management Group, OHCHR, and UNDP, will hold a civil society consultation on the development of a Common Approach for UN agencies on the implementation of the right to a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment. The consultation is scheduled for June 10 and will take place in a hybrid format, with in-person participation at the International Environment House in Geneva, Switzerland, and virtual participation available. Two sessions will be held, from 10:00 to 11:30 CEST and from 14:00 to 15:30 CEST. Participation is open to civil society organizations, and registration is required through the UN’s Indico platform.
Regional Bodies
African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights
The African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights (AfCHPR) is scheduled to hold its 81st Ordinary Session from June 1 to 26 at its seat in Arusha, United Republic of Tanzania. The session takes place during the Court’s 20th anniversary year, marking two decades since it began its work in 2006. The Court’s ordinary sessions generally include the consideration of pending applications, deliberations, public hearings, and the delivery of judgments. Further information about the session, including any public hearings, judgments, or virtual participation details, may be available on the Court’s website closer to or during the session.
European Committee of Social Rights
The European Committee of Social Rights (ECSR) will hold its 356th Session from June 29 to July 3. The agenda and synopsis of the session will be posted on the Committee’s webpage after the conclusion of the session.
Inter-American Court of Human Rights
The Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACtHR) is scheduled to hold its 191st Ordinary Session from June 3 to 19 and its 192nd Ordinary Session from June 29 to July 3. The agenda for the 191st session includes one public merits hearing, one supervision hearing, and private deliberations on pending cases. The 191st session will also include a special farewell event in honor of the departure of Pablo Saavedra Alessandri, who has been Secretary of the Court for more than two decades. A press release with the agenda for the 192nd session will likely be released just before the start of that session. Public hearings of the Court may be viewed via livestream on the Court’s YouTube channel.

UN Treaty Bodies
Human Rights Committee
The Human Rights Committee is the body of independent experts that monitors implementation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) by its States parties. General Comments are authoritative interpretations issued by treaty bodies to clarify the scope and meaning of treaty provisions and the obligations of States parties. The Committee has issued a call for comments on its draft General Comment No. 38 on article 22 of the ICCPR, concerning the right to freedom of association. Deadline June 30.
In preparation for its 146th session, the Human Rights Committee is also accepting written contributions from NGOs and other civil society actors to inform the Committee’s follow-up consideration of Bolivia, Iraq, Luxembourg, and Uruguay. The session page includes guidance on how to submit information to the Committee. Deadline July 27.
Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities
The Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) has issued a call for inputs on three draft instruments: (a.) a Draft General Comment on article 29 of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, concerning the right of persons with disabilities to participation in political and public life, (b.) Draft Guidelines on identifying and addressing intersectional discrimination against women and girls with disabilities, and (c.) Draft Guidelines on identifying and addressing disability-based violence. Deadline June 15.
This Committee has also issued a call for input on two Draft General Comments on article 11 of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), concerning situations of risk, including humanitarian emergencies. Deadline July 10.
Finally, in preparation for its 35th session, the CRPD is expected to accept written contributions from organizations of persons with disabilities, NGOs, and other civil society actors through the OHCHR events platform. The session is scheduled to consider State reports from Chile, Lithuania, Qatar, Slovakia, and Sri Lanka, lists of issues for Burundi, Ethiopia, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, and Romania, lists of issues prior to reporting for Gabon and San Marino, and a list of issues in the absence of a report for Guinea. Deadline July 12.
Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination
In preparation for its 118th session, the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) is accepting written contributions from NGOs and other civil society actors to inform its adoption of a list of issues prior to reporting for Eritrea. Deadline June 15.
Also, in preparation for its 118th session, the CERD is accepting written submissions to inform its review of State reports from Finland, Honduras, India, and Kuwait. Deadline July 20.
Committee on Enforced Disappearances
The Committee on Enforced Disappearances (CED) has issued a call for inputs on the first draft of General Comment No. 2 on “The impact of Enforced Disappearances on Women and Girls.” Deadline June 21.
In preparation for its 31st session, the CED is also accepting written contributions from NGOs, victims, academics, national human rights institutions, and other civil society actors to inform its adoption of lists of priority themes for Colombia, Cuba, Italy, and Paraguay. Deadline June 30.
Finally, the CED is accepting written contributions and requests for oral briefings in relation to first reports from Belize and Lesotho, and additional information concerning Armenia and Gabon, which are scheduled for consideration at the 31st session. Deadline July 30.
UN General Assembly: Human Rights Council
For the Human Rights Council’s 62nd regular session, registration of NGO written statements for Agenda Items 6, 9, and 10 opened on May 25 and will close on June 1 at 12:00 p.m., Geneva time. Further information on the submission process, format, and number of submissions allowed is available on the Council’s NGO participation page. Questions may be directed to [email protected].
In addition, and in preparation for the 54th session of the Working Group on the Universal Periodic Review in January–February 2027, OHCHR is accepting written submissions from NGOs, national human rights institutions, and other stakeholders concerning the reviews of Togo, Syrian Arab Republic, Venezuela (Bolivarian Republic of), Iceland, Zimbabwe, Lithuania, Uganda, Timor Leste, Republic of Moldova, Haiti, South Sudan, Myanmar, Sudan, and Ukraine. Deadline July 17.
Special Procedures
- The UN Special Rapporteur on the independence of judges and lawyers has issued a call for input to inform an upcoming thematic report on the role of justice systems in addressing the climate crisis, to be presented at the 81st session of the UN General Assembly. Deadline June 2.
- The UN Special Rapporteur on summary, extrajudicial or arbitrary executions has issued a call for input to inform a thematic report on documenting, investigating, and preventing arbitrary deprivation of life of older persons. Deadline June 4.
- The UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea has issued a call for input to inform a report on the right to life, with particular attention to arbitrary deprivation of life, the death penalty, public executions, and deaths in State-controlled settings in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. Deadline June 5.
- The UN Special Rapporteur on freedom of peaceful assembly and of association has issued a call for input to inform a report on youth activism, including youth-led organizations, movements, and protests. The report is motivated by the global rise of youth activism, especially Gen-Z protests, and will be presented to the UN General Assembly in October 2026. Deadline June 5.
- In May, the new UN Special Rapporteur on contemporary forms of slavery and trafficking in persons hosted a series of online consultation workshops to gather insights and perspectives on progress in anti-slavery and anti-trafficking, as well as on opportunities, threats and strategic priorities that should shape the future direction of her mandate. A consultation survey is also being made available for those who wish to participate in writing. The deadline to respond to this survey has been extended to June 7.
- The UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights of internally displaced persons has issued a call for input to inform a thematic report examining how reconstruction affects communities and internally displaced persons (IDPs) after conflict or mass-devastation. Deadline June 15.
- The UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights of migrants has issued a call for input to inform a report on children’s right to family life in the context of migration and asylum policies. Deadline June 15.
- The UN Special Rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights has issued a call for submissions to inform a report on poverty in cities. Deadline June 15.
- The UN Special Rapporteur on counter-terrorism and human rights has issued a call for input to inform an upcoming thematic report on “Counter-terrorism law, organized crime and human rights,” to be presented to the General Assembly in October 2026. Deadline June 15.
- The UN Independent Expert on the enjoyment of all human rights by older persons has issued a call for input on “Autonomy, dignity & human rights in situations of dependency in older age.” Deadline June 17.
- The UN Special Rapporteur on contemporary forms of racism has issued a call for input on combatting the glorification of Nazism. Deadline June 19.
- The UN Special Rapporteur in the field of cultural rights has issued a call for contributions in preparation for the official visit to the Republic of Zimbabwe. Deadline June 24.
Investigative Bodies and Expert Mechanisms
- The UN Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (EMRIP) will hold its 19th session in Geneva, Switzerland in July 2026. Language interpretation services can be requested from June 1 to 10. Those interested in participating in person must register through the UN’s Indico system by July 3. Individuals who are unable to participate in person may still watch the meetings via UN Web TV.
- The UN Expert Mechanism on the Right to Development (EMRTD) has issued a call for input from diverse stakeholders regarding the role of peace and security as conditions for the full enjoyment of human rights and the right to development. Deadline July 15. The deadline for this call for input was originally in April 2026, but has now been extended.
- The UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Ukraine is seeking information and documentation, preferably by July 31, relevant to its investigation of alleged violations and abuses of human rights, violations of international humanitarian law, and related crimes in the context of the aggression against Ukraine by the Russian Federation. The call for submissions contains further instructions on how to share this information and identifies issues of particular interest to the Commission of Inquiry, including violations and crimes targeting children, recruitment of third-country nationals to serve in armed forces or weapon factories, and the impact of attacks on energy infrastructure on civilians.
- The Fact-Finding Mission on the situation in North and South Kivu provinces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (OFFMK) has issued a call for submissions of information related to alleged human rights violations and abuses committed in the context of the latest and ongoing escalation of hostilities in January 2025 in the provinces of North and South Kivu. No deadline specified.
- The UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and Israel (COI-OPT/Israel) has issued a broad call for submissions of information concerning acts of killing and causing serious bodily or mental harm committed by any State or non-State actor since October 7, 2023. No deadline is specified, but this information will be used for a report that will be presented to the UN Human Rights Council in June 2026 and to the UN General Assembly during its 81st Session in October 2026.
- The UN Independent Investigative Mechanism for Myanmar has issued a press release calling for all those who witnessed or have direct information about an airstrike on a boarding school complex in Thayat Tabin village, Kyauktaw Township in Rakhine State, on September 12, 2025 to please share their evidence. The press release contains further instructions on how to share information with the Mechanism. No deadline specified.
- The UN Independent Investigative Mechanism for Myanmar has issued a call for information calling for anyone who witnessed or has direct knowledge of the airstrike on Mrauk U General Hospital in Rakhine State on December 10, 2025 to please share their knowledge of the incident. The call for information contains instructions on how to share information with the Mechanism. No deadline specified.
Other UN Human Rights Bodies
- The UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) has issued a call for input to inform the study requested under Human Rights Council resolution 59/15 aimed at assessing the effectiveness of national frameworks for the protection of journalists. Deadline June 1.
- The OHCHR has issued a call for inputs to inform the preparation of a report on trade agreements, including their gender equality provisions, and their impact on women’s economic empowerment. Deadline June 12.
- The OHCHR has issued a call for contributions to inform an analytical study on protection gaps in access to medicines, vaccines, and other health products. Deadline June 15.
- The UN Voluntary Fund for Indigenous Peoples is inviting representatives of Indigenous Peoples to apply for financial support to attend COP31 of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Antalya, Türkiye and the UN Forum on Business and Human Rights in Geneva, Switzerland. Both events will happen in November 2026. Application deadline is June 28.
Regional Bodies
African Commission and Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights
- In advance of the 5th African Business and Human Rights Forum in September, civil society organizations and other stakeholders are invited to submit proposals for sessions, panel discussions, exhibitions, documentary/movie screenings, workshops, training, clinics, etc., that they would like to deliver as part of the Forum. Deadline June 19.
- The African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR) has issued a call for submissions of substantive input to inform the development of a draft outline of a General Comment on the right to environment. Further information on what topics the Commission’s working group is hoping to cover in this general comment are included in the call for submissions. Written submissions may be provided in English, French, or Portuguese, and concise contributions of up to five pages are preferred. Submissions may be emailed to: [email protected], copying [email protected] and [email protected]. Deadline June 20.
- The African Court, the African Commission, and the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child have issued a call for papers for Volume 10 of the African Human Rights Yearbook. Topics include the African human rights system, the African Union’s 2026 water and sanitation theme, and case commentaries. Deadline July 31.
African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child
The African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACERWC) invites written inputs from all stakeholders to inform its drafting of a General Comment on Article 28 of the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child. According to the call for inputs, “[t]he General Comment seeks to clarify these obligations and provide concrete, rights-based guidance to States Parties on their implementation. The draft General Comment addresses: the scope and legal basis of Article 28; clarification of key terms; the general principles of the Charter as they apply to Article 28; State obligations, including legislative, administrative and other measures; treatment, rehabilitation and reintegration for children affected by substance abuse; data collection and research; and emerging intersectional issues.” Submissions should not exceed 5 pages and may be submitted in any of the official languages of the African Union to: [email protected], copying [email protected] and [email protected]. Deadline June 30.
Inter-American Commission on Human Rights
- The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) welcomes registrations for participation in the ex officio public hearings that will take place within the framework of its 196th Period of Sessions, to be held in August in Washington, D.C. One ex officio hearing will be on human rights of cross-border indigenous peoples in the Americas, and the other will be on the topic of hurdles faced by Caribbean countries to implement social reintegration programs for individuals who are deprived of liberty and later released from prison. Registration deadline June 20.
- The IACHR also welcomes registrations for participation in the dialogue with civil society that will take place during the same session, on August 7. Registration deadline July 10.
- The IACHR also invites requests for hearings and working meetings to be included in its agenda for its 197th Period of Sessions in October-November 2026, which will take place in Panama City, Panama. Request deadline June 26.
